Best and Worst Movie Remakes Blogfest

When Hollywood runs out of ideas, they remake older films. Sometimes this works, and sometimes it fails miserably.

The Best Remake: Poseidon

Poseidon is an adventure to watch! It keeps you on the edge-of-your-seat and is a thrill ride. I enjoyed Poseidon immensely and it's highly recommended.

The Worst Remake: Footloose

Footloose is very predictable and derivative. The performances aren't pleasant to watch. I did not enjoy this film at all. I don't recommend Footloose unless you're passionate about dance.

The Underwhelming Remake: The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby remake by Baz Luhrmann is currently in theatres. I did not see the 1974 adaptation and perhaps, I'll catch the film on video. The latest adaptation is good, but not excellent. You can see my review here.

Have an excellent weekend!

  1. Yeah, I had no idea why they redid Footloose. Not like there were special effects or anything!
    Thanks for co-hosting the blogfest.

  2. I liked the original 'Poseidon', but haven't seen the remake. Probably won't, there's too many others I've got to see first.

Never saw Footloose, I don't like movies about dance - I want drama, scifi, fantasy.

  5. Wow, I haven't seen any of these movies! (In regards to the Footless remake, though, that's probably a good thing, since you list it as one of the worst, heh.)

  6. I haven't seen the original Footloose, but I didn't think the new one was all that great either! That's disappointing that The Great Gatsby was just okay :(

  7. The original Poseidon Adventure is one of my favorite movies. There are a couple of remakes, but I don't like any of them as much as the original. But, the scene when the boat turns over in any version is still breath taking.

  8. I only had to read the synopsis for the footloose remake to know I wasn't interested in wasting two hours of my life. Thanks for co-hosting this fun blogfest.

  10. I liked the original Poseidon a lot. When I heard that the remake was really bad I avoided it. Maybe on your recommendation I should give it a chance.

  11. We are meant to see the Great Gatsby soon so I will have my own thoughts on that soon. Though I haven't seen the original either.

I featured Footloose as well :)

  12. Thanks for sharing your best and worst. The trailer alone turned me off the Footloose remake. Sorry about The Great Gatsby not meeting your expectations.

  13. The one thing I DO remember about The Poseidon Adventure, is the song, There's Got To Be A Morning After! I love that track!

  14. There was absolutely no reason whatsoever to remake Footloose - very good choice.

  15. I've seen Footloose on a couple lists for this fest. I liked the remake. My daughter and I watched it together and I thought the updated music and dancing were great without losing the original story line too much. My daughter loved it. In fairness, I made her watch the original, which she also thought was fun (but didn't like Kevin Bacon at all LOL).

  16. Hi, I'm a new follower. I stopped by to read the best/worst remakes. I blanked out and forgot to write and publish my post for the blogfest, but if I had, Footloose was my choice for worst remake. I haven't seen the new Gastby, but I loved the original and so far I haven't heard too many god things about the remake. I will read your review for a different opinion.

    Nice to meet you.
