It's been a year since my novella Cat and The Dreamer was published! There have been lots of changes in my own life in that time, and I started to wonder what else had changed...

Today's topic: Film, of course!
Film?... Film?... As this is the last post of my blog tour, I'm going to cheat a little bit. I'm going to look backwards and forwards, because I didn't actually see much in the cinema at all in 2012, let alone films I thought were worthy of a blog post. I know there have been many noteworthy films out this year - drawing a range of opinion from my blogger friends - but the film that got me jumping up and down is due out this year.
In February I was completely unaware, but Hubby showed me this trailer in the summer.
If you're a Superman fan like me, I hope you'll agree that this is one of the most fascinating trailers for a Superman film. In fact I'm jumping up and down again now which is making it really hard to type!
As a child of the 70s Christopher Reeve will always be Superman to me. I love the original film so much. Brandon Routh did an amazing job of mimicking Reeve in the 2006 Superman Returns, but I didn't think the story had been thought through that well.
Man of Steel takes the story back to the beginning, Henry Cavill doesn't look like Christopher Reeve, and the whole feel of the trailer makes it seem much darker and realistic. I'm either going to think it's fantastic or the worst thing that's ever happened to cinema... I'm sure I'll blog about it though!

I loved watching the original Superman films as a kid and I never thought anyone could portray Superman as well as Christopher Reeve. However, I have to say that this is the first time that I'm excited and have high hopes for this new movie, Man of Steel. I can't wait until it comes out and hopefully I'll get a chance to see it on the big screen. (:

DeleteI loved Christopher Reeves too and to me, he is Superman. I'm always curious about remakes and, of course, film making and special effects have progressed so much since the Reeves days. All the best to you on this tour! Thanks Livia. :)
ReplyDeleteThe effects were pretty impressive for the 70s though, if you compare to some other films of the time.

ReplyDeleteThere's another trailer where they show Superman in handcuffs, and you just know Superman is just thinking "Now really guys, if I wanted to get out of these all I'd have to do blink hard."
Handcuffing Superman? If ever there was a pointless task!
DeleteI loved Christopher Reeve too, but Man of Steel looks cool. I think what gets me in the trailer are the clips of the little kid in the red towel cape.
ReplyDeleteThe Hobbit, Les Mis, and The Avengers were my faves for 2012. For 2013, I'm looking forward to Hobbit, part 2, and the new Star Trek film. My family and I will also be going to the second Hunger Games flick, but we have already decided we like the books better - although we all think that the guy that plays Peeta is an excellent actor.
Hubby and the kids saw The Hobbit and The Avengers. Although I'm a huge Superman fan, I'm not keen on other super heroes - I always compare them to the big guy!

He was an iconic image of the 70s - even if you never saw a single film, you wouldn't probably be able to avoid Christopher Reeve.
DeleteI like the trailer - except for the flying at the end (it looked a bit silly but then I guess it was out of context!) Having a hard time accepting anyone but Christopher Reeve - but on the other hand the new guy looks masculine and sensitive enough for the part! Hmmm - might go and see it. I'll wait and see what you think of it!
ReplyDeleteI think he'll work well if he doesn't try to be Christopher Reeve - like I said in the post, that was done last time, but I think it detracted from the story. This seems to be a totally new attempt, so a totally new actor should have his turn (and, no, that's not something I would usually say!)
DeleteI thought Henry Cavill was great (and smoking hot LOL) in the Tudors and I think he will be amazing in this. I hadn't seen this trailer yet, it's excellent!

DeleteThis looks like it's going to have a deeper, more personal feel to him. I'm a Superfan, so I'll be catching this for sure. And I think that you're thinking of Teri Hatcher (who later went on to Desperate Housewives) as Lois in Lois and Clark.

ReplyDeleteMy recommendations for 2012 movies - Argo and Madagascar III. Yes, I am a sucker for the fun animated films.
I've seen reviews of Argo - it does look very good. Animated films are brilliant - I like the Madagascar films, although haven't seen III yet.
DeleteThis one does look good. I like darker, too. I grew up watching the B&W tv series w/ reeves dad.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen that series. The only b&w TV series I remember seeing is Batman (which may have been in colour, but it was old!)
DeleteSuperman is such a classic and I love Christopher Reeve as well, but the world has gone a bit darker when it comes to film and I don't really do dark. I even write light paranormal. Can't we all just have a Disney World, lol? I know I'm the odd man out in this forum:)

DeleteWhen I first saw they were making another Superman movie, I was leery because they did so horribly with the last one, and the original is the bomb, I thought. But this does seem interesting... my type of movie.

DeleteI've liked Henry Cavill ever since I saw him in I Capture the Castle, and I think he was really good in The Tudors too. So it'll be interesting to see him take on this role as well.
